Field Supervisor (32 hours/week)
Allegheny GoatScape seeks an organized, energetic and strong person who enjoys working outside with people and animals, and wants to help improve our environment through a unique means of invasive plant control in and around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our Field Supervisor is a vital member of our small organization, performing formidable but fulfilling work.
We are seeking someone amazing who can oversee the implementation of our goatscaping projects with our field staff and volunteers.
Regular tasks for the Field Supervisor will include:
Managing field staff
Planning and preparing sites for projects with basic mapping, clearing fence line and setting up fencing with AGS staff and volunteers
Keeping fencing and field equipment organized and maintained
Providing care of our animals while they are working on projects alongside other AGS staff
Supporting the animals’ efforts by providing landscaping as the animals work
Helping move animals with a stock trailer
Interacting with the public and working with enthusiastic volunteers.
Candidates must have their own vehicle, be self-motivated and organized within a flexible work schedule, and from time to time may need to work on weekends. They must have the ability to move heavy objects and feel comfortable working on hillsides and uneven ground. They will manage the field staff and work closely with the other staff members to accomplish necessary tasks.
This position is ideal for someone with prior experience managing small teams in landscaping or other outdoor work settings; has some working plant knowledge; feels comfortable working in one-on-one and group settings; and understands the physical challenges of working in Pittsburgh’s hilly terrain.
Skills Needed and other requirements:
Reliable transportation
Excellent communication and organizational skills, and interest in improving organizational systems
Proficiency with Google suite products including Google calendar and capacity to use on a regular basis
Ability to work both independently and lead small teams of staff and/or volunteers
Ability to carry items up to 50lbs on a regular basis and team lift heavier equipment
Ability to work on hillsides and precarious landscape situations including natural areas where poison ivy, thickets, and ticks may be present
Ability to work in inclement weather, specifically on hot, sunny summer Pittsburgh days and in the rain
Comfort working with large animals and the byproducts they produce such as manure
Positive attitude and flexibility, including potential work on weekends; capacity to work collaboratively on a small team
Passion for social and environmental justice
Time & Compensation:
$22.00/hour, 32 hours/week
Travel and phone correspondence will be reimbursed; PTO
